Steve Mayer

Commandant of Cadets

Major Steve Mayer is originally from Freehold, NJ and is a Graduate of The Citadel in South Carolina. During his military career he served as an Infantry Officer. Among his assignments were tours with 1st Bn 75th Ranger Regiment, 101st Air Assault Division, and West Point as an Instructor with the Department of Military Instruction, and a Tactical Officer (Co G-1, USCC). For the past 26 years, Major Mayer has served as Commandant of Cadets at three different military boarding schools. In this role he has been responsible for the morale, welfare, discipline, and military training of all cadets. He and his wife Caroline are happy to join the Lyman Ward team!

 Ricardo Garcia    TAC Officer - Weekends     Hometown : Los Angeles, California  Education : Currently working on a Undergraduate Degree, Business Administration, College of Business at Auburn University with a 3.0 GPA.   Military Experience : Six combined combat deployment to Iraq, and Afghanistan for Operations Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Other training deployment consist of training evolutions in Okinawa, Japan, Tokyo, Thailand, Korea, Norway, and the Philippians. Primary Military Occupational Specialty is, Communications Chief , Marine Corps Drill Instructor, Sgt Instructor Officer Candidate School Quantico, and Marine Corps Martial Arts Instructor. During his current tour he has been awarded the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor of the Year for the Southeast Region, Auburn Marine League detachment Letter of Appreciation, The State of Alabama Governor's award 2015 and 2017 for Outstanding Military Service, Letter of appreciation Auburn University President, recommended for NSTC Marine of the year, Sergeant Instructor of the cycle at Officer Candidate School Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia along with numerous certificate of Commendation for best Drill evaluation platoon. I'm currently involved with the Auburn Marine League and Auburn Student Veterans Association, Auburn University.   Family : Gunnery Sergeant Garcia is married to the former Elizabeth Covarrubias of Yuma, Arizona and father of five children, Clarisa 22, Esteban age 19 (U.S. Army), Leila age 12, Mariah age 8, and Gia age 5. Elizabeth works at East Alabama Medical Center and is majoring in Health Service Administration.  Started at LWMA in 2018
