MONTGOMERY, AL - Lighthouse Christian used a suffocating man-for-man defense to create numerous turnovers in defeating the visiting Lyman Ward Military Academy Rangers, 72 - 66, in a Saturday afternoon region contest in Montgomery on Jan. 10.
The win evens the season record at 9 - 9 for the Lighthouse Pirates, while Lyman Ward falls to 5 - 4.
The fast-paced game was a see-saw battle, with the lead exchanging hands several times. The home team led 31 - 27 at halftime, then outscored the visitors 29 - 25 in the third quarter. LWMA rallied for 14 points against Lighthouse's 11 in the fourth stanza, but it wasn't enough to pull out a victory.
"You can't turn the ball over 23 times and expect to win very much," Coach Jeff Damron said after the game. "We gave a great effort this afternoon, but their defense forced us into some very poor decisions. There were some bright spots - our free throw shooting improved markedly - and there is a lot of basketball left to be played."
The Fighting Rangers host Abbeville Christian in Camp Hill on Monday, Jan. 12. Tipoff time is 6:00 p.m. CST.
