CAMP HILL, AL --- Lyman Ward Military Academy welcomed families of cadets, alumni, and friends to its annual Military Day activities on campus on Saturday, May 2.
The day-long event serves as a Spring homecoming each year, and is traditionally held on the first weekend in May. Military Day activities include an open house in the classrooms and dormitories; static military equipment displays; Ranger demonstrations; squad drill competitions; a formal parade, won this year by Charlie Company; and a sumptuous buffet. Evening activities include the annual Sword Drill performance, Senior Lead Out, and Military Ball, all held in the gymnasium.
New events for Military Day 2009 included the Ranger Ramble, a 5K fun run sponsored by the LWMA Alumni Association, and a luncheon honoring the Class of 2009, sponsored by the alumni in the historic Tallapoosa Hall Gymnasium.
Alumni of The Southern Industrial Institute (SII), forerunner of Lyman Ward Military Academy, gathered on Friday, and the LWMA Class of 1999 held its 10-year class reunion.
