CAMP HILL – Coach Sheldon Ward's Junior Varsity basketball team won its first game of the 2008 – 2009 season, defeating visiting Chambers Academy of Lafayette, AL, 39-30, on Dec. 9.
The varsity game was called in the first quarter due to moisture on the playing floor as a result of heavy rain storms in east Alabama that evening. The varsity game will be replayed at a later date to be announced.
The Junior Varsity Rangers (1-0) led the entire game. Freshman guard Andrew Lasseter of Montgomery, AL, in his first year of playing basketball, scored a game-high 19 points, including one three-point shot and 2-for-2 free throw shooting. Chambers' Dodgen Lord led the Rebels with 17 points, including a game-high five treys.
Freshman Jarrel Redfield added six points to the winning cause, and eighth grader Ben Greenberg also had six points. Malcolm Ellison added four points, Drew Coffey two, and Logan King two for the winners.
The Running Rangers varsity and junior varsity teams travel to Coosa Valley Academy in Harpersville, AL, south of Birmingham, for games on Thursday night, and return home to Camp Hill for a Friday night contest with Coosa Valley Academy. Tipoff time is 5:00 p.m. CST.
