  1. Where is Lyman Ward Military Academy located? The Academy is located in Camp Hill, AL ,just 25 miles NW of Auburn ,AL ,or 90 miles SE of Birmingham by way of US Highway 280. www.mapquest.com

  2. Is Lyman Ward Military Academy accredited? If so, but what accrediting agency? The Academy is accredited through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which is one of six regional accrediting associations in the United States.

  3. What are the admissions requirements? The Academy accepts new cadets on the basis of background, character, and the promise of academic success. Applications are accepted year round.

  4. Are female students accepted? The Academy is a boy's boarding school and does not accept female students.

  5. What does it cost to attend LWMA? Room, board and tuition expenses for the year are approximately $17,500. This does not include the cost of uniforms for first year cadets which is $2,200 plus sales tax. Additional expenses are estimated at $800 per school year. Families should also anticipate a budget for travel, allowance, care packages, etc.

  6. Are there any scholarships or financial aid available? The Academy does have limited funds to assist deserving cadets based on performance after enrollment. Families requesting aid should direct their letters to the Academy President.

  7. What is LWMA's student to faculty ratio? As you may guess, it varies from year to year , but usually it is about 12 students per faculty member.

  8. How can I arrange a campus visit? Campus visits are arranged by calling our admissions office at 800-798-9151. They are generally held Monday - Saturday from 9:00 am until 3:30 pm.

  10. What sports programs does LWMA offer? The Academy currently offers Four major interscholastic sports: football ,basketball, baseball, and soccer. Intramural sports are also offered on a weekly basis.

  11. How is LWMA's JROTC program rated by the U.S. Army? The Academy's JROTC program is rated as an Honor Unit with Distinction and has been since its inception. This is the highest rating possible. 

  12. What is the deadline for submission of an application for admission? Applications for admissions are taken year round. New cadets are admitted in August and January. Consideration is given for late enrollees.

  13. Does LWMA have a summer school session? Yes. Summer school is held in June and is fully accredited through SACS. Information and an application can be obtained by calling 800-798-9151 or by visiting our website at www.lwma.org.

  14. Do you ever hold informational meetings in other locations? Yes. When we hold such meetings, the locations and dates are posted at Presentations. In addition, letters are sent to persons in the area who have contacted our office for information.

  15. What does a new cadet need to bring from home? A detailed list of items needed can be obtained at our What to Bring from Home List.

  16. Can I download a complete admissions information package, including forms, from your web site? Yes, please go to Admissions Page.

  18. Can I bring a computer? Due to space limitations supervision requirements, no computers from home are allowed. LWMA has a computer lab available and also has computers for cadet use in the library.
