Letter from the President
Since 1898, Lyman Ward Military Academy, founded as the Southern Industrial Institute, has been dedicated to the development of the “whole boy,” instilling pride and self confidence in all aspects of his life, while establishing a solid foundation of success through a structured military environment in the pursuit of excellence in academics, athletics, leadership and personal achievement.
We are proud of each and every young man who walks through our doors, often anxious and concerned about what lies ahead, yet leaving our Academy with the confidence and maturity necessary to succeed in their next steps in life’s long journey.
With our many successes, come various challenges, including occasional allegations of hazing and abuse. However, I want you to know that the safety and security of our cadets is at the top of the list of important tasks that we must accomplish each and every day. Please understand that it is the policy of Lyman Ward Military Academy that no member of our community, including administration, officers, faculty, staff or Cadets, may participate, condone, or be involved in hazing of any sort. Any person who violates this policy will be subject to strict disciplinary measures.
We place high expectations on ourselves and our Cadets, and therefore, we ask that every cadet and his parent read and sign our No Hazing Policy, as well as the Academy’s Cadet Code and Cadet Regulations which specifically ban the use of hazing in any form or for any purpose. Additionally, we conduct leadership training as a prerequisite before any cadet is allowed assume a position of leadership within the Corps of Cadets and our cadet leaders are under the supervision of our adult staff to assure their proper use of approved leadership techniques in the performance of their responsibilities.
As President of the Academy, I maintain an open door policy and cadets are made aware that they may use this opportunity to report any incidents of hazing or discuss any other issues that may be bothering them directly to me in strict confidence and with the utmost in privacy.
As a potential Cadet, or the parent of a potential Cadet, we invite you to further explore our No Hazing Policy and feel free to contact us with questions.
Sincerely,
Albert W. Jenrette Colonel, US Army (Retired) President
